As part of the "Eltern-Kind-Pass", the following free counseling appointments with a midwife have been available since October 1, 2026:
- Midwife counseling during weeks 14–20 of pregnancy
- Health consultation ("Gesundheitsgespräch") during weeks 14–20 of pregnancy
- Midwife counseling during weeks 24–34 weeks of pregnancy
It is recommended that you combine the midwife consultation during weeks 14–20 of pregnancy and the health consultation into a single appointment.
You are entitled to these appointments even if they are not yet listed in your yellow Eltern-Kind-Pass (which still reflects the old regulation—midwife consultation between weeks 18 and 22). These appointments are not mandatory. We ask for your understanding if there are still occasional organizational uncertainties in the initial period following the introduction of the new services. The introduction of the electronic Eltern-Kind-Pass has been postponed until fall 2027.
In these appointments you can ask the midwife questions regarding the pregnancy, birth and the weeks after the baby has been born. For example:
- How can I prepare myself for birth?
- Should I attend an antenatal class?
- Can I exercise during the pregnancy? And what should I eat or avoid to eat?
- What different possibilities for extra support are available and how do I get a midwife for postpartum home visits?
- What things should I buy in beforehand?
- I have heard, that ….
- Is it true, that ….
- I am concerned about …
- ...
These midwife consultations are free!
If booked with a midwife without a contract with the insurance company, you have to pay € 67,- which will be completely refunded.
If you already looked for a midwife for the time after birth, this appointment can be used as a first contact, to get to know each other. In this case please contact the midwife directly.

Beyond that the Hebammenzentrum offers a broad range of free advisory services, no matter which week of the pregnancy you are in.
We also offer these consultations on Wednesday afternoons at PVE Sonnwendviertel in Cape 10, Alfred-Adler-Straße 1, 1100 Vienna and on Friday afternoons at FEM Med, Reumannplatz 7, 1100 Vienna!

These consultations are possible between 13+0 to 19+6 and 23+0 to 33+0 weeks of pregnancy.
